APA Branches and National Groups run a full program of workshops, seminars, formal courses, and major conferences. In an average year, more than 400 APA courses and PD events are offered across Australia. Many events are videotaped, and the tapes are available for borrowing. Teleconferencing facilities and satellite broadcasting are often used for members who live in rural or remote regions.

APA accredited courses are assessed for quality, efficiently administrated, and often markedly subsidised for APA members.

National Groups are progressively developing specialisation programs to enable APA members to build recognised expertise in specific clinical areas. The APA actively promotes the specialisation process to third parties, some of whom recognise our specialisation process in their fee and funding models.
