National Paediatric Group (NPG)

Membership of the NPG is open to all APA members with an interest in Paediatric Physiotherapy. The NPG is committed to nurturing paediatric physiotherapy practice. Through our network of members and state represented chapter groups, the NPG has always shown continuous improvement. Our vision is to continue to forge our group forward for our member services and the services we provide to the children we see. The NPG will continue to represent the needs of its members by further developing our professional development opportunities, improving the identity and public profile of paediatric physiotherapy and improving access to paediatric physiotherapy for all children who require it. We do this through our role in professional resource development, advocacy, research and education and, member and public communication.

All members of the NPG receive

  • a quarterly eNewsletter
  • access to professional development at discount rates
  • access to the NPG website community. This is a valuable resource for networking and accessing the clinical expertise of ones peers, especially useful for those in rural and remote areas.
  • and access to peer networks and support for physiotherapists working with children

Advocacy

The NPG responds to political and media issues concerned with the paediatric physiotherapy profession or the children we see. The NPG working in collaboration with other children’s services groups such as Child and Youth Health or the Education Department has developed a number of position statements regarding paediatric health and well being, or paediatric physiotherapy professional issues. A full list of APA Position Statements is available http://apa.advsol.com.au/physio_and_health/public/position.cfm

Research

The NPG supports paediatric research through the availability of a paediatric tagged research grant through Physiotherapy Research Foundation (PRF). The NPG returns a portion of any profits incurred back the PRF paediatric tagged grant.
