Governance & Structure
The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) corporate structure is one of a company limited by guarantee. The organisation has approximately 12,000 members, some 70 staff, and over 350 members in volunteer positions on committees or working parties. The APA has non-autonomous Branches in each State and Territory. The APA also includes 14 National Groups representing clinical or professional specialty areas. The APA is committed to implementing the highest standards of corporate governance. Our governance practices have been reviewed against the ‘Principles of Good Corporate Governance and Best Practice Recommendations’ as published by the Australian Stock Exchange.
The APA is governed by a Board of Directors who must all be financial members of the APA, in addition to other eligibility criteria as outlined in the APA Constitution. Board members are elected by the National Advisory Council (NAC).
The APA Board of Directors receives policy recommendations from the NAC. All APA Branches and National Groups nominate a representative to the NAC. Other nominees to the NAC include representatives of the APA student group, the rural and remote membership base and the Australian College of Physiotherapists.
