Introduction To Pilates for Neurological Clients

This course is designed for Physiotherapists with experience working with neurological patients, who are interested in developing their skills in applying Pilates exercise in their management of these clients.  This course will introduce participants to both matwork and equipment-based Pilates exercises (including Reformer), and how they can be applied when rehabilitating clients with neurological conditions. 

Completing this course will enable you to:

  • appreciate the historical development of the Pilates method
  • outline the fundamental philosophy and principles underlying the Pilates method
  • understand the research evidence for the efficacy of the Pilates method
  • understand the benefit of the Pilates method for neurologically normal individuals and individuals with neurological impairment
  • demonstrate and apply appropriate exercises using the Pilates method, and understand the  rationale for their application to specific neurological impairments
  • understand how the Pilates method can be applied to treating a neurological client
