This course is appropriate for AHPRA registered physiotherapists only*

Physiotherapists are increasingly using dry needling for pain management. This structured course meets the national recommendations for physiotherapists to practice dry needling safely for musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries.  The sound knowledge of indications and contraindications for dry needling requires appropriate assessment and treatment skills.  This course is designed to provide physiotherapists an opportunity to improve knowledge and skills of dry needling, and make them aware of guidelines for safe dry needling practices.

At the completion of this course, you should:
Understand the theories and research on dry needling pertaining to musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries
Be aware of the contraindications and precautions for dry needling
Understand infection control guidelines and effectively practice infection control in relation to dry needling
Be able to evaluate patients suitable for dry needling
Be able to complete a technique checklist for safe dry needling in a range of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries
Reach a level of safe dry needling of upper trapezius, thoracic spine and quadratus lumborum – three of the most dangerous areas physiotherapists are likely to needle.
