The new Level 1 Sports Course is the first step in the career pathway developed by Sports Physiotherapy Australia (SPA) National Committee is forindividuals who aspire to becomSports Physiotherapists or obtain introductory learning to Sports Physiotherapy.


 The course teaches newly graduated physiotherapists skills in the assessment andiagnosis of sports injuries.


This course is aligned with the International Federation of Sports Physical Therapy (IFSPT) competency standards, so by completing this course, you can work towards being awarded the APA Sports Physiotherapist Title and subsequently the title of Registered International Sports Physical Therapist.


Course Aims:

  • Tteacnewlgraduatephysiotherapists or those entering sports environment for the first time, skillibasiassessmenosporting injurietthkneeankle, foot, hip and groin, spine, shouldeand thigh.
  • Participants will also demonstrate competence (via recommended learning reinforced throughout the level 1 course) in emergency management of the injured athlete. 
  • Tensurthaalparticipantcan confidentldiagnosanformulate a treatmenplafostandarsportinjuriesThe course will alsprepareparticipants for worwithin a sportinteaand knowledge otravelling with a team, load monitoring, concussion assessment and management and introductory taping skills.


Target Audience


Combination of graduatphysiotherapists  approximately up to 2 years after graduating, and any physiotherapist wishing to refine their sports physiotherapy assessment and management skills and techniques.


It is recommended before you attend this course you complete:


  • AHPRA Registration as a Physiotherapist
  • SMA Sports Trainer minimum level 1 Course (recommended but not required)
  • First Aid, CPR Current certificate (recommended (but not required)
  • ASADA Medical Support Personnel Anti-Doping Course (recommended but not required)
