Continence and Women’s Health
The continence and women’s health group is ideal for physiotherapists interested in the management of men, women and children with incontinence and assorted women’s health issues. Continence and women's health physiotherapists are involved in providing services in both the public and private health sectors.
In the public sector, they provide antenatal and postnatal education, pregnancy-specific exercise classes, and individual musculoskeletal treatments for pregnancy-related back pain and incontinence. In addition to this, they also design and deliver osteoporosis education and exercise classes, and treat women post-mastectomy.
In the private sector, the work opportunities are diverse and limitless. One can own a practice that specialises in the treatment of continence, a gym geared to the needs of female clients, or be contracted to deliver community-based education programs and exercise classes.
There is also a wealth of opportunities for high-quality research. The continence and women’s health group produces many fine researchers in the areas of incontinence, osteoporosis and exercise post-mastectomy to name a few.
The group runs lectures and courses on the above areas of interest in each state. The group also liaises closely with the Continence Foundation of Australia and holds positions on several government committees.
