National Physiotherapy Service Descriptors

The National Physiotherapy Service Descriptors (NPSD) take into account a practitioner’s level of expertise, the type of service delivered and the location of the service.  By basing the descriptors on the services provided, rather than the length of time taken for consultation, the descriptors take into consideration that a more experienced practitioner may be able to treat a client with multiple or complex problems in less time than an inexperienced practitioner.

The NPSD have been revised for 2012 to better reflect current best practice.  The APA has also published a background document to help with interpretation of the descriptors.
