Male pelvic pain: an orthopaedic approach for musculoskeletal and pelvic health physiotherapists in the management of male pelvic pain.


Dr Ruth Jones PhD MCSP is a chartered physiotherapist, clinician, researcher, master’s supervisor, lecturer and writer. She works clinically and consults elite sports bodies and athletes, including the Football Association and professional teams. She has also presented at national and international conferences and workshops related to movement, pelvic floor function and pain. Along with Leon Chaitow, she co-edited ‘Chronic pelvic pain and dysfunction: practical physical medicine’, published by Elsevier in 2012. Ruth Completed her PhD in 2010 at Southampton University with Professor Maria Stokes, in collaboration with Chris Constantinou at Stanford University, California, USA. Her research evaluated dynamic pelvic floor muscle function. The team developed software for use with dynamic ultrasound, in order to promote further understanding of pelvic floor muscle function. She has a special interest in chronic pelvic pain and related movement dysfunction.
